Firefighters responded to an alarm at 12:40 a.m. Friday (Dec 21) to a structure fire at 85 Hoku Street in Hilo.
Crews arrived to find a single-story home and adjoining carport engulfed in flames. The residents, two parents and a child, escaped unharmed. A neighbor’s home had some minor fire damage from the blaze.
The roadway was blocked during firefighting operations and fire was under control by 1:10 a.m.
The home was destroyed with the loss estimated at $68,500. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
