WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: WFT-E7A Wireless File Transmitter

Units: About 500

Importer: Canon U.S.A. Inc., of Lake Success, N.Y.

Hazard: A chemical used in the rubber part on the top cover of the product can result in a reaction that changes the rubber from black to white and poses a risk of skin irritation to the consumer.

Incidents/Injuries: No reported cases.

Description: This recall involves Canon WFT-E7A wireless file transmitters, which allow photographers to transfer image data securely without the use of cables and wires. The transmitters are black, 5.3 inches wide, 1.2 inches tall and 2.4 inches deep and weigh 5.8 ounces. The Canon logo, the words “Wireless File Transmitter” and a rubberized cover are on the top of the transmitter. A digital access port and an Ethernet access port are on one side of the unit and a battery compartment is on the opposite side. An LCD panel and a power switch are on the back of the transmitter and a tripod screw hole is in the center of the unit. The first two digits of the serial number of recalled units are “03” through “06” and the fifth digit is “1.” Serial numbers are on a gray metallic plate on the bottom of the unit.

Sold at: B&H Photo, Best Buy and camera and mass merchandise stores nationwide and Amazon.com and other online retailers from May 2012 through October 2012 for about $850.

Manufactured in: Japan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the transmitter and contact Canon U.S.A. for a free repair.
