High Surf Advisory for Big Island North and East shores

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for North and East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 a.m. Saturday (Dec 1). Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Maui are also under a High Surf Advisory.

Surf is forecast to reach heights of 12-16 feet along North facing shores peaking this afternoon and diminishing through the day on Saturday.

Large breaking waves will cause hzardous conditions in the surf zone including dangerous rip currents. Beach and oceangoers are advised to use caution in and around the ocean.

Boaters should use caution as moderate to strong surges may occur near the entrance to Hilo Harbor.
