Statement by Horner, Matayoshi regarding contract negotiations

MEDIA RELEASE

The State Negotiating Team and representatives with the Hawaii State Teachers Association on Tuesday resumed negotiations.

Hawaii State Department of Education Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi and Board of Education (BOE) representatives were included in the initial discussion on the employer’s proposals for a 2013-2015 contract.

Following the meetingm Matayoshi and BOE Chairman Don Horner issued the following statement:

“We appreciate teachers for their professionalism and dedication, which have resulted in excellent progress by our students. Together with the Governor, we share the goal of achieving an agreement that provides for Hawaii’s teachers and reflects their contributions to students and the state. We are committed and hopeful that we can reach a positive resolution for the benefit of teachers, students, and the state.”
