Meet Hawaii team in L.A. for conference

This week the Meet Hawaii sales team, joined by 19 travel industry partners statewide, is in Los Angeles to seek new corporate meetings and incentive business at the 2012 Financial Insurance Conference Planners (FICP) Annual Conference.

Along with generating leads for future group bookings, the Meet Hawaii team will also begin building anticipation among attendees for Hawaii Island’s hosting of the 2014 FICP Annual Conference, Nov. 16-19, at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.

“The meetings, conventions and incentives (MCI) market is one of the most valuable and lucrative visitor markets for Hawaii’s tourism economy,” said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority. “In 2011, the North America MCI market contributed just under 300,000 in visitor arrivals and $743 million in total expenditures. We appreciate our Meet Hawaii sales team and their efforts in continuing to grow the market and welcome MCI travelers to our Hawaiian Islands.”

FICP is an individual membership association for meeting planners employed within the insurance and financial services industry. Organizations belonging to FICP represent a lucrative sector of the meetings market and are considered a top target for Hawaii to develop new bookings for corporate meetings and incentive programs on all islands.

Hawaii’s meetings industry has maintained a strong relationship with FICP members and the companies they represent through the years. Oahu previously served as the host island for the 2004 FICP Annual Conference.

“Hawaii’s attributes and array of resort meeting facilities statewide are an ideal fit for FICP organizations wanting to conduct corporate meetings or offer employee incentives to reach production goals,” said Michael Murray, CMP, CMM, CASE, vice president of sales and marketing for the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.

Murray added, “We’re excited about the potential for new bookings that FICP offers to our industry, and especially about the 2014 Annual Conference coming to Hawaii Island. That was a real coup to bring FICP back to Hawaii, and it will be great for business on all islands.”

HVCB is contracted by the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), the state of Hawaii’s tourism agency, to provide marketing management services for the conventions, meetings and incentives market segment.

HTA was established in 1998 to ensure a successful visitor industry well into the future. Its mission is to strategically manage Hawaii tourism in a sustainable manner consistent with the state of Hawaii’s economic goals, cultural values, preservation of natural resources, community desires, and visitor industry needs.
