Chief justices visit with isle students

California Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye and Hawaii Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald visited Friday with Big Island students to talk about their experiences in the legal profession.

They were quizzed on their backgrounds, what drew them to the legal world and how students can develop their interest in a legal career.

Cantil-Sakauye’s father was a native of Kohala native, although she grew up in California.

Cantil-Sakauye was named Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court in 2010.

The talk-story with the two chief justices was broadcast live to high schools across the state, before they enjoyed lunch prepared by culinary students at University of Hawaii Center West Hawaii.
