Downed utility line closes Highway 11 near Manuka State Park

MEDIA RELEASE

Police report Highway 11 is closed in both directions at Manuka State Park in Ka‘ū (81-mile marker) until about 11:45 a.m. Monday (Nov 5) due to a downed utility line.

A small fire caused by the utility line has been extinguished.

Hawaii County Police report Highway 11 is now open in both directions at Manuka State Park in Ka‘ū near the 81 mile marker

According to Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) a very large Ohia tree fell against a transmission and distribution line Monday (Nov 5) near Manuka State Park. The downed tree caused a power outage to about 2,200 HELCO customers at about 8:30 a.m. HELCO crews were able to remove the tree and repair the utility lines with power being restored at about 11:55 a.m.
