Hawaiian cancels flights over Hurricane Sandy

MEDIA RELEASE

At the request of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, Hawaiian Airlines has cancelled scheduled service between Honolulu and New York City for Sunday, Oct. 28, and Monday, Oct. 29.

To accommodate affected passengers Hawaiian has scheduled an additional round trip to New York City that will depart Honolulu on Tuesday afternoon, providing the storm clears as expected.

Affected passengers will be booked on this flight or Hawaiian’s other regularly scheduled flights between Honolulu and New York-JFK, and are advised to call Hawaiian’s reservations at 1-800-367-5320 to confirm flight details.

Hawaiian also intends to resume regularly scheduled service Tuesday afternoon with its flight departing Honolulu, weather permitting.

Hawaiian earlier pledged to waive any booking change fees related for passengers affected by the hurricane.

The affected flights are HA 50, which departs 3:05 p.m. daily from Honolulu International Airport and HA 51, which departs 10 a.m. daily from John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Neighbor island residents making connections to Sunday’s flight were re-booked on flights back home and will be returned to Honolulu when the JFK flights resume at no additional cost.

In addition, Hawaiian is working with Ohana Hotels to offer discounted accommodations on O‘ahu for passengers connecting to one of the grounded flights from other Hawaiian Airlines destinations.

Hawaiian will post updates online at www.HawaiianAirlines.com
