Laupahoehoe fire under control

A brush fire mauka of Laupahoehoe first reported early Wednesday afternoon was mostly contained by firebreaks by Thursday, although it continues to burn, fire officials report.

Fire crews remain on the scene to mop up hot spots.

County crews were joined by firefighters from the state Division of Forestry and Wildlife. One helicopter was called in to make water drops.

The fire is on pasture land in a forest reserve area below Mana Road. No evacuations were ordered.

An estimated 22 acres has been scorched.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
