Lost hikers rescued in Olaa Forest Reserve Monday (Sept 17)

A 48 year-old man and 33 year-old woman became lost during a hike in the Olaa Forest Reserve while searching for Maile plants Monday afternoon (Sept 17).

Hawaii County Fire Department rescue personal on the ground along with Chopper One in the air were notified of the lost pair at 12:46 p.m. and conducted their search.

The two lost hikers were spotted and then airlifted by the helicopter to the Volcano Transfer Station area. The pair said they were not familiar with the area and had gotten lost after going off the trail.

The lost hikers were in good health and did not require medical attention.
