Fire/rescue crews responded to a 5:31 p.m. alarm Friday (Sept 7) to the intersection of Mamalahoa Highway (Hwy 19) and Paauilo Makai Road in Hamakua for a pedestrian struck by a truck.

The male was crossing the highway at the intersection and was struck by a semitrailer causing multiple injuries. Medics found no signs of life and he was put on life support and taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital via medic unit where he was pronounced dead.
