Entries sought for Kailua-Kona Community Christmas Parade

MEDIA RELEASE

Kona’s Community Christmas Parade starts at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, with primary sponsors the Rotary and Lions Clubs of Kona.

It will begin at Kona’s Kekuaokalani Gym next to Kona Pool, go south on Kuakini, down Palani, and along Alii Drive to Walua Road, just past Coconut Grove Marketplace.

The Grand Marshal is Barbara Nobriga. She has been a wonderful community advocate, providing leadership with the 4-H Horse Club, Daughter’s of Hawaii, Kona Historical Society, Kona’s King Kamehameha Day Parade, as well as restoration projects that include Hulihee Palace and Kamehameha III’s Birthplace in Keauhou.

The parade theme this year is “Let’s Be Jolly!” There will be approximately 70 entries in the parade, including community and corporate groups. There will be numerous musical entries, and more than half of the entries will beautifully light up the evening, including HELCO’s Toy’s For Tots Train, and of course, Santa and his reindeer.

Something new this year will be the first annual Menehune Holiday Food Drive. What better time of the year to give back a little something to help those who are struggling day to day to feed their families here on the Big Island.

The Menehune Holiday Food Drive supports Hawaii Island’s Food Basket, and will involve both our wonderful parade entrants, and the thousands upon thousands of parade attendees.
