MEDIA RELEASE
The Nominating Committee of the Hawaii Supreme Court is seeking applications from qualified attorneys wishing to serve as members of the Board of Bar Examiners (BOE).
The committee will make recommendations to the Supreme Court which will make the appointments.
The BOE examines, recommends and records applicants for admission to the Bar and gives written examinations to test the legal and educational qualifications and knowledge of legal ethics of each applicant.
Eleven terms will expire Oct. 31, 2012, and selected board members serve three-year terms beginning Nov. 1, 2012.
The Nominating Committee is also seeking applications from qualified individuals to serve on the Disciplinary Board (DB) of the Hawaii Supreme Court.
Two terms will expire Oct. 29, 2012, one lawyer position and one non-lawyer position. The terms are for three years beginning Oct. 30, 2012.
Duties of the DB include overseeing the Office of Disciplinary Counsel which investigates allegations of attorney misconduct and incapacity and recommending appropriate action. Attorneys who applied to serve on the DB earlier this year will also be considered for the DB attorney term.
Qualifications for both the DB and BOE include sound judgment and a willingness and ability to devote time to perform necessary duties including learning the procedures, methods and functions of their board.
These positions are not compensated, although travel expenses are reimbursable. The deadline for applications is Aug. 31, 2012.
Those interested in serving should submit a resume and letter indicating their interest to:
