MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Hawaiʻi Isle Police Activities League (HI-PAL) held a “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 basketball tournament for teenage players at Papaʻaloa Gym on July 20.

Five teams competed in the boys division and five in the girls division. In all, 34 youths played basketball into the night.

Coming out on top in both the boys and girls divisions were teams from Papaʻaloa. Members from the high school girls winning team “Country Girls” are Ashlynn Santos, Reisha Hoopii-Haslam, Emi-Rose Agquinaldo and Mandie Quevedo. Members of the high school boys winning team “Kountry Boys” are Kelson Araw Jessie Araw and Jordan Salboro.

Prior to the start of the games, the players participated in a program called “Fatal Vision,” in which they wore goggles depicting the different levels of intoxication with instructions to dribble a basketball, perform a lay-up and shoot a free throw. While this activity was entertaining, it also demonstrated the importance of avoiding alcohol consumption.

The next HI-PAL “Click It or Ticket” event is scheduled for August 24-26 in Honokaʻa.
