Fire officials investigating Hilo house fire

Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Authorities are investigating the cause of a residential fire Friday in Hilo.

Responding to the 7:17 p.m. alarm, firefighters found a Manaolana Place two-story home and garage about 60 percent involved, according to a Fire Department report.

Fire crews were able to keep the flames from further spreading and extinguished it within one hour.

One injury was reported, although the report does not indicated how serious the injury was.

The department estimated damage at $250,000, with property valued at $150,000 saved.

Also, volunteers with the American Red Cross disaster volunteers responded to the scene to meet with affected residents and ensure their immediate emergency needs for food, shelter and clothing are met.

Caseworkers will continue to follow up with anyone affected in the coming weeks to provide referrals, guidance or additional assistance as needed to help with the recovery process.
