‘Heart of Champions’ golf tourney benefits cardiac care

MEDIA RELEASE

The Kona Hospital Foundation is holding its 11th annual golf tournament on Aug. 19 at the Kona Country Club.

This year’s theme is “Heart of Champions.” Proceeds will benefit the newly opened cardiology clinic at Kona Community Hospital.

The Foundation’s current campaign will provide new and upgraded cardiology equipment, ensuring that cardiac patients have access to on-island state-of-the-art care and treatment.

The cardiology clinic was recently opened at Kona Community Hospital (KCH) in partnership with Maui Heart and Vascular at Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC).

The presence a locally based cardiology clinic provides wide-ranging diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The collaboration between KCH and Maui Heart and Vascular brings a high caliber of experience and care to the West Hawaii community.

“Hawaii County has the highest coronary heart disease death rates in our state. We are fortunate to have a Foundation that is dedicated to providing much needed cardiology equipment which will help to improve cardiac outcomes for our community. Their commitment is appreciated,” commented Jay Kreuzer, CEO of Kona Community Hospital. “We also would like to express our sincere gratitude to those who have generously contributed to the Foundation.”

This year, the popular golf tournament is being held at the Kona Country Club’s ocean course. Golfers from across the state and the mainland will play for serious prizes and bragging rights. The event will conclude with a lunch and awards ceremony catered by the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa. Check in time is 7 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
