Water shut off for Lalamilo Water System work (Aug. 15)

MEDIA RELEASE

Water will be temporarily turned off along a section of Kawaihae Road and the lower part of Kohala Mountain Road from 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 to 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 due to night-time construction work on the Lalamilo Water System.

Areas affected by the water shut-off include all services along Kawaihae Road west of Pako Place, including Lalamilo Homestead Subdivision, Parker Ranch Residences, County of Hawaii Transfer Station, Kamuela View Estates, South Kohala View Estates, Kamuela Plantation, Waimea Landmark Estates, Anekona Estates, Waiemi Place and Waiaka Street/Waiaka Place; also both sides of Kohala Mountain Road, including Hawaii Preparatory Academy, Lanikepu Place, and Ohiaku Place in South Kohala.

Affected customers are asked to take any and all precautions necessary to protect the customers’ property and facilities including, but not limited to, disabling electrical power to pumps and/or any other devices whose normal operation may be dependent on water pressure and/or water supply, and which might be harmed if automatically energized during the water shut-off.

Upon the resumption of water service, the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time you may notice turbid and/or discolored water. You may also notice trapped air in your plumbing, which will be released as you initially use water.

For more information on the water shut-off, contact the county Department of Water Supply District Supervisor Andrew Higa at 887-3030.

Night-time construction work at the intersection of Kawaihae Road and South Kohala Distribution Road (a.k.a. Waimea Transfer Station Road) will occur from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 and conclude at 4 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16.

No lane closures are scheduled along Kawaihae Road, but motorists are asked to drive slowly and cautiously through the work zone.

South Kohala Distribution Road will be closed during these hours, except for authorized vehicles.

During this time, construction workers will complete a waterline connection for the Lālāmilo Subdivision Offiste Water System – 16″ and 12″ Transmission Main project.

The state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) began construction on the $1.6 million Lalamilo Water System earlier this summer. Construction of the entire water system is anticipated to be complete by Sept. 12, 2012.

For more information on the Lalamilo Water System, contact DHHL Project Manager Jeffrey Fujimoto at (808 )620-9274.
