Starting Aug. 6 the mauka-makai beach access road to the Kohanaiki Coastal Community Park will be closed for approximately six weeks to allow road improvements to take place.

The temporary closure is a safety precaution and a construction requirement.

The road work is part of an overall improvement plan for the Kohanaiki Coastal Community Park.

Alternate access may be available from the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii access road north of Kohanaiki.

Daily Kohanaiki beach area use and camping will continue during the construction.

Highway signs as well as advertisements in the local newspapers will keep the public informed on updates to the road work and its completion. ​
