Hawaii Island Contractors Association endorses Kahele

From Sen. Gil Kahele:

With 10 days to go before the Aug. 11 primary election, we are proud to announce Sen. Gil Kahele has received the endorsement of the Hawaii Island Contractors Association.

The Hawaii Island Contractors Association is one of Hawaii Islandʻs oldest organizations tracing its history back to the pre-World War II town of Hilo.

The association represents 138 member companies on Hawaii Island that specialize in the construction industry. Offering special discounted safety classes to itsÊ» members, social events to strengthen its companies and their families as well as acting as a “voice” for the construction industry on Hawaii Island at the legislature, the association features prominent companies such as Isemoto Contracting, Hawaiian Dredging & Construction, HPM Building Supply, Jas W. Glover and Yamada & Sons.

Craig Takamine, president of the association and president of Takamine Construction had this to say in the selection of Kahele by its membership:

“In the last 18 months since his appointment, Sen. Kahele has proven that he can bring jobs and new projects to Hawaii Island. Just in the last month alone, Sen. Kahele broke ground on the new UH-Hilo Student Village and got the Governor to release the $14 million for the stalled Hilo Airport Cargo Facility. These are critical projects that put our local companies back to work and invest in our island and itÊ»s future. We have the utmost confidence that Senator Kahele will continue to push for additional projects for our island and the members of the Hawaii Island Contractors Association. He is the best choice to represent Hilo and Hawaii island in the State Senate”

To date, Kaheleʻs candidacy for State Senate District One has been endorsed by the ILWU Local 142, HSTA, UHPA, Ironworkers, Laborers Local 368, Sierra Club, Hawaii Association of Realtors, IBEW Local 1357, Hawaii Building & Construction Trades Council, United Public Workers Union, IBEW Local 1186 and the Hawaii Teamsters Local 996, West Hawaii Today and the Hawaii Island Contractors Association.
