Police seek information in Puna arson and burglary investigation

Big Island police are renewing their request for the public’s help in identifying possible suspects in a burglary and fire on May 30 in Puna.

At approximately 5:19 a.m. on May 30, police and Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a structure fire in Shipman Industrial Park. Upon arrival, they found a warehouse located on Kipimana Street fully engulfed in flames.

Investigation revealed that the front gate chain was severed to gain entrance to the premises. One or more suspects entered the building from the rear by cutting a hole in the wall and then removed a flatbed pickup truck and some heavy equipment.

The incident is being investigated as arson and burglary.
