WMS Local Advisory Panel to meet (July 30)

MEDIA RELEASE

Waimea Middle School’s newly appointed Local Advisory Panel (LAP) will begin discussion and input on the school’s vision and values when meeting from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, July 30 in Classroom K-04.

Also on the agenda will be a report from Student Leadership, a review of the school’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) performance data for 2011-12 and the 2012-13 school year budget, and an update on planning required as a “candidate for accreditation” and of proposed expanded learning time.

All LAP meetings are open and all school-community members and friends are welcome to attend.

Chairing the meeting will be the newly appointed Chair, Dr. Kamana Beamer, who was elected at the June 25 LAP meeting and subsequently approved by the public conversion charter school’s Local School Board.

Beamer, who was raised and continues to live in Waimea, is an Assistant Professor with the newly formed Hui Aina Momona program, which is an innovative collaboration involving the UH-Manoa School of Hawaiian Knowledge and the William S. Richardson Law School.

He previously served as the Land Legacy Manager for Kamehameha Schools Land Asset Division.

The WMS LAP is comprised of representatives of all of the school’s stakeholder groups including students, family members, certificated faculty, classified staff, administrative leadership, community leaders and partners and representatives of Hookakoo Corp., the public charter school’s not-for-profit local school board.
