Flaming car wreck ignites brushfire on Saddle Road Saturday morning (July 21)

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 10:34 a.m. alarm Saturday (July 21) to about the 50 mile marker of Saddle Road for a two car crash.

Crews found both cars off the roadway with one vehicle engulfed in flames on the makai side of road. The car fire ignited the pastureland, which burned about one acre of federal property before being put out by Pohakuloa Training Area fire crews.

The occupants of the both cars were able to get out without injuries. Saddle Road was closed for about 70 minutes due to heavy smoke and firefighting activities.
