MEDIA RELEASE
Kailua Kona’s Hualalai Academy is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Robert Whiting as Interim Head of School for the 2012-13 school year. Dr. Bob recently retired from Holy Nativity School on O`ahu after 11 years as Head of School. Prior to his leadership role at Holy Nativity, Dr. Bob had a lengthy career at Kamehameha School Kapalama Campus that included positions in administration, curriculum, learning centers and teaching.
Dr. Bob’s educational background reflects not only achieved degrees in education but also a depth and range of relevant experience in independent schools. As a seasoned leader, he brings to Hualalai Academy the proven ability to enrich and enliven our students and advance our mission of 21st Century Learning.
Hualalai Academy is a K-12 college preparatory school that empowers students through an integrated curriculum and experiential learning to develop their academic, artistic, social and physical skills. We provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment that encourages exploration, community involvement and lifelong learning.
Hualalai Academy was founded in 1996 by parents who wanted to maintain local, quality education for their children in the Kona District, and by business owners who needed this essential amenity to draw young professionals to the area. The school had been opened originally in 1985 as a K-5 satellite of Waimea’s Hawaii Preparatory Academy.
Hualalai Academy is located on a 14.8 acre campus located 3 miles from Kailua Kona village on the slopes of Hualalai.
My congratulations to Dr. Whiting, my good friend from childhood. You are going to have to retire someday, Bob. Come and see Pat and me in Grand Junction the next time you are on the mainland. We will show you a good time. Tom
