Ravine fire burns for second day in Ka‘u Saturday (July 14)

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

County firefighters were joined by National Park Service fire crews on a second day of working to put out a brushfire in a Ka‘u ravine near Lower Moaula Road and Highway 11 Saturday (July 14).

Some small spot fires were found burning in the surrounding Macadamia Nut orchards. Smoldering fires and hot spots in and along the edge of the deep ravine were being monitored to prevent the fire from spreading.

Crews plant to monitor the fire scene throughout the night. About 60 acres have been burned in the fire.
