L’Heureux appointed as DOE assistant for facilities, support services

An accomplished executive with extensive military and operational leadership experience has been appointed as DOE’s Assistant Superintendent for the Office of School Facilities and Support Services.

The state Board of Education approved Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi’s appointment recommendation of Raymond L’Heureux on June 19. His first day on the job was July 2.

“Raymond L’Heureux is a visionary leader,” Matayoshi said. “As we continue our journey to transform Hawaii’s public school system, L’Heureux’s comprehensive operations, planning, logistics, and risk management experience will be integral to the implementation of our strategic plan for 21st-century school facilities and support services focused on students and achievement in the classroom.”

L’Heureux succeeds Randolph Moore who retired June 30, 2012.

“I would also like to extend our fond appreciation to Randy Moore for his exceptional leadership during his tenure, and wish him a wonderful retirement,” Matayoshi said.

L’Heureux’s 30-year military career included numerous high-level executive positions responsible for strategic and management operations with the United States Pacific Command and the Marine Corps in Virginia, and Hawaii.

Most recently, he served as Special Envoy for the Commanding General Joint POW/MIA (May 2010 – August 2011) at Hickam Air Force Base, Marine Forces Pacific Chief of Staff (June 2009 – April 2010) at Camp Smith, and Marine Helicopter Squadron One HMX-1 Commanding Officer (July 2007 – June 2009) located in Quantico, Virginia.

He also served as vice president for Asia Pacific Programs at Global Relief Technologies (December 2010 – May 2011) in Honolulu and a Secretary of Defense Corporate Fellow (June 2005 – May 2006) at Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation based in Connecticut.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Nathaniel Hawthorne College and an executive master of business administration from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.

Recently retired from the military, L’Heureux now looks forward to adding value to the state’s education system in his new role and giving back to the Department that served his family.

His son and daughter attended Kailua Intermediate and are graduates of Kalaheo High School.
