DUI stats for the week of June 25-July 1, 2012

During the week of June 25, 2012, through July 1, 2012, Big Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 698 DUI arrests compared with 720 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 727 major accidents so far this year compared with 682 during the same period last year, an increase of 6.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 27.3 percent.

To date, 11 fatalities were related to drugs (6), alcohol (3), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
