Ane Keohokalole Highway to open for traffic Saturday afternoon

MEDIA RELEASE

The new Ane Keohokalole Highway in Kona, which runs north and south between Henry Street and Kealakehe Parkway, will open for traffic at 3 p.m. Saturday (June 23).

Police want the public to be aware that the speed limit on the new highway is 35 miles per hour and that the intersection at Kealakehe Parkway is a four-way stop.

For the protection of the public, officers will enforce the speed limit and the four-way stop effective immediately upon the opening of the highway.

Please drive safely!

35mph…..School buses will go faster then that…..could have been 45mph……This has nothing to do with wanting to speed…..its about vehicles running in higher gears and under less rpm loads……

  2. Joseph says:

35 mph speed is ridiculous for a 3 mile, one intersection road. Ought to be 40 or 45. Lower speed limit = more speeding tickets. Hawaii police economics 101.

  3. Aaron Stene says:

The speed limits are likely based on AASHTO standards. This is the “excuse” the county told me after I complained about the speeds on Puainako Extension in Hilo. Nevertheless, the county ended up raising the speed limit on this roadway from 45 to 55MPH about a year ago.
