Lee to join UH-Hilo softball program

MEDIA RELEASE

East Carolina University catcher/outfielder Rebecca Lee will be joining the University of Hawaii at Hilo softball program announced UHH Head Coach Jaime Wallin.

“Rebecca is a great addition to our program,” said Wallin. “Rebecca brings athletic tools that we need – speed from the left side of the plate and defensive versatility – as well as game experience and a competitive perspective that will be a real asset to our program.

“She has an understanding of the tradition here at UH Hilo and within the Vulcans softball program through her sister Dana.”

In two years at ECU, Lee started 69 games and appeared in 90 games. Rebecca participated in Conference USA tournaments in 2011 and 2012 and the NCAA Regionals in 2011.

After helping lead Mililani High School (HI) to a pair of runner-up finishes at the Hawai’i Division I state softball championship her first two seasons, the Trojans broke through in Lee’s junior year and captured the title. As a junior, Lee batted .444 with seven doubles and two home runs as she was a Honolulu Advertiser First Team All-State selection as a catcher. Following her sophomore campaign, she received Honolulu Star-Bulletin Second Team All-State honors. As a freshman and sophomore, she also helped Mililani capture two Oahu Interscholastic Association championships. Lee competed for the Kûpono and Guava Jam summer travel teams. In 2007, Kûpono took ninth-place at the ASA Western Nationals. Off the field, she is a two-time principal’s list selection and an honor roll member since sixth grade.

“She is tremendous student as well,” said Walling. “Rebecca will have two years of eligibility and be majoring in Business.”

Lee’s signing brings Wallins 2012 recruiting class to five. Committing to the Vulcans earlier were Kaylie Drew (5-11 infielder, Fallbrook, Calif.), Brittany Huff (5-3 infielder, Las Vegas, Nev.), Hannah Peterson (5-6 pitcher, Alta Loma, Calif.) and Brandi Wilson (5-5 outfielder, Glendora, Calif.).
