Lei draping to honor King Kamehameha I at Hilo bayfront

King Kamehameha I was honored with a lei draping ceremony for his statue at Hilo bayfront Sunday (June 10).

The Hawaii County Band provided music for the event and the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Ahahui O Kaahumanu Helu Ekolu, Hale O Na Alii O Hawaii Halau O Kalakaua and others presented hookupu with the long flower lei.

Kamehameha festivites continue in Kapaau, Kohala Monday (June 11) with a lei draping of the original Kamehameha I statue, a parade and hoolaulea. For more information about the Kohala event visit: http://www.kamehamehadaycelebration.org
