Parks Department reopens Kona swimming pool

MEDIA RELEASE

The Kona Community Aquatic Center was reopened Tuesday morning following completion of a safety upgrade to the swimming pool’s drainage system, according to the county Department of Parks and Recreation.

Drain covers at county swimming pools are being replaced with newer, safer versions that meet mandated federal standards to address potential entrapment issues.

The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks the public for its patience and understanding while these important modifications are being made to ensure swimmers’ safety, Director Bob Fitzgerald said.

People wishing to use the Kona Community Aquatic Center (KCAC) may do so weekdays from 6 a.m. until 7:45 p.m. Weekend hours are 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m.
