Wind advisory issued for large portions of the Big Island

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for the Big Island for the areas of Kona, Big Island South, Big Island North, East Kohala and Big Island Interior areas. The wind advisory also includes the cities of Kailua-Kona, Milolii, South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Waimea (Kamuela), Waikoloa, Bradshaw Field and Saddle Road above 5,000 feet.

Winds are from the East at 15-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Motorists should use caution while driving, especially high profile vehicles. Also watch for flying debris and tie-down any loose objects at homes.

The wind advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. this evening (May 24).

A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for Big Island Windward waters.
