Schatz serving as acting governor

Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz is serving as acting governor while Gov. Neil Abercrombie is on personal leave through Friday, May 18.

The governor is visiting family in New York state.

Also on May 18, Schatz will travel to Taiwan and Korea where he will meet with officials, including the president of Taiwan, to promote tourism in Hawaii and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation.

In January 2012, Abercrombie assigned Schatz to head an aggressive energy initiative for the State of Hawaii that includes seeking national and international partnerships.

Schatz departs Friday morning at which time Attorney General David Louie will serve as acting governor until Abercrombie returns from his trip at 5:30 p.m.
