Pink Martinis heading to tennis championships (May 19)

The Pink Martinis Senior Women’s 3.5 tennis team is on its way to Maui to represent West Hawaii at the USTA/HPS Senior Section Championships.

The competition is the weekend of May 19 at Royal Lahaina Tennis Garden and Kapalua Tennis Ranch.

The Pink Martinis play out of Island Slice Tennis Club at Keauhou Beach Resort. The two other teams in the 3.5 league were the Keauhou Bruisers from Keauhou Beach Resort and Game Set and Match out of Holua.

In addition to the women’s 3.5 team, Big Island teams from East Hawaii and West Hawaii in men’s and women’s leagues at all levels are slated to compete. Teams from Maui, Kauai, and Oahu will also take part in the Sectionals.

The Pink Martinis include Peggy Chestnut, Debbie Downes, Sherry Bracken, Melany Kerver, Peggy Spencer, Janet Howard, June Taguma, Jane Galante, and Molly Nakano.

Team members Lily Acoba and Margaret Kearns will not be playing, as they are recovering from injuries.

Their coach is Matt Johnson, a pro at Island Slice at Keauhou Beach Resort.
