WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT

On Nov. 17, 2011 in San Francisco, Liquid Robotics, with its PacX partners and sponsors, launched four Wave Glider marine robots on a record-breaking Pacific crossing.

Designed to encourage new scientific discoveries and applications in ocean science, the company is making available unprecedented amounts of ocean data transmitted in real-time during its yearlong journey.

This enormous data set is provided globally, free of charge, to the world’s scientists, educators, students, and the general public.

When they reach their final destinations (Japan & Australia), the Wave Gliders will have earned a Guinness World Record for the longest voyage completed by an unmanned ocean vessel.

GET INVOLVED

Liquid Robotics has created the PacX Challenge Prize, to encourage the world to make use of this trove of data in interesting, productive, and innovative ways.

The PacX Challenge Prize comprises a $50,000 research grant from BP and six months of free Wave Glider data services.

Submit a short research abstract (max. 500 words) describing:
* The proposed research, goals and objectives utilizing the PacX data
* Any ancillary data you intend to use
* The desired scientific results and conclusions

The deadline for abstract submissions is July 17, 2012.
