U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Akaka (D-HI) today introduced a resolution to honor public servants. He was joined by Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Carl Levin (D-MI), Joseph Lieberman (ID-CT), Tom Carper (D-DE), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), and Christopher A. Coons (D-DE).
This resolution honors the contributions of federal, state, and local government employees during Public Service Recognition Week, set for May 6-12.
This is the 28th year public servants will be honored with Public Service Recognition Week, which takes place during the first full week of May.
Akaka said: “I am proud to once again take a moment to honor our public servants. As a life-long public servant, I have worked with so many talented, hard-working people who have dedicated their lives to helping others. I have been inspired by meeting countless men and women who come to work every day to serve their communities and country. These admirable Americans provide so many of the vital services that make our way of life possible.”
Akaka is the Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

I too am a public employee of 38 years (retired now for 2 years) and am so proud of the my fellow coworkers. They are indeed hard-working, honest, caring people who many times come in and do the work because it needs to be done and are not always clocking in their hours. They truly use their lives to serve others. Thank you for horing them in this way.
