The American Bar Association (ABA) hosted ABA Day on Capitol Hill on April 18.

Margaret Masunaga, ABA state delegate from Hawaii, met with Congresswoman Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA), and Congressman Gregorio Sablan (D-Northern Mariana).

Hirono is supporting the ABA in continued full funding of Legal Services Corporation, VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) Reauthorization, and federal tax intercept legislation to satisfy overdue state court debts.

Masunaga also had lunch with Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, met with Sen. Dan Inouye, Sen. Daniel Akaka, went to the White House to meet with Vice President Joe Biden’s Counsel, and attended a dinner with ABA President Bill Robinson.

Masunaga, along with Judge Elizabeth Strance, attended a reception at the U.S. Supreme Court hosted by Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

On behalf of the West Hawaii Bar Association, they presented three pounds of Kona coffee to the Justice.

“Justice McKenna of the Hawaii Supreme Court told me to make sure I bring Kona coffee to her,” Masunaga said. “Justice Sotomayor visited Oahu in February and she loves Kona coffee.”
