MEDIA RELEASE

West Hawaii Dance Academy presents “Alice in Wonderland” for its 2012 spring recital.

Featuring approximately 80 young dancers, the show is 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27 at Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu.

Everyone is invited to join Alice on a magical adventure as she tumbles into Wonderland. During the imaginative journey guided by the White Rabbit, Alice meets some astonishing characters, including the Mad Hatter, the Caterpillar, A Garden of the Living Flowers, The Cheshire Cat and the infamous Queen of Hearts.

Basing this ballet on Lewis Carroll’s much-loved children’s books, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, academy artistic director Virginia Holte, co-director Midori Satoh and instructor Claire Hollinger have created a captivating piece, brimming with wit, humor and charm.

Jeanne Kapela, who contributed to the choreographic mix by including her Junior Hip Hop students, appears as Alice. Tai King adds her newfound love for aerial work in her interpretation of the sinewy Caterpillar.

With its whimsical flights of the imagination, brought to life by narrator Debbie Weilt, eclectic musical score, crafted and played by pianist Megumi Kopp, story by Shivah Carlyle, “Alice in Wonderland” is delightful entertainment for all ages.

Tickets: Adults $20; Age 12 and under $10; Age 5 and under admitted free.
