Jack’s Diving Locker earns PADI Green Star Award

MEDIA RELEASE

Jack’s Diving Locker in Kona has received the Green Star Award from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).

Dive centers receiving this award must demonstrate dedication to conservation leadership, reduced energy use, use of sustainable materials, and more.

Being green is nothing new to Jack’s Diving Locker managing partners, Jeff and Teri Leicher. Starting in the 1980’s, the couple spearheaded a mooring buoy project to preserve the coral reef.

This is now a statewide project with Jack’s Diving Locker’s continued support and involvement for more than 25 years.

Jack’s Diving Locker sponsors an annual underwater clean up at Kailua Pier and conducts regularly scheduled shoreline clean ups with kids in their Sea Camp Hawaii program.

In the shop, all lights have been changed to energy saving bulbs and the company actively recycles aluminum, plastic, cardboard and paper.

This award is personally gratifying for Teri Leicher who strongly believes in the value of environmental practices in the ocean recreation industry.
