More board appointments for Senate approval


Gov. Neil Abercrombie has completed another round of appointments to various boards and commissions. These appointments require confirmation by the state Senate.

Among the dozens of boards of commissions filled, Abercrombie made appointments to the Agribusiness Development Corporation and the Board of Agriculture.

The appointments to fill three seats on the Agribusiness Development Corporation are:

* Letitia Uyehara is reappointed to the at-large seat.

Uyehara is the director of marketing and special programs at Armstrong Produce, Ltd. Prior to her current position, she spent thirty years in state government.

She is a former Department of Agriculture deputy director (1993 – 2002); and former director of the Office of Environmental Quality Control of the Department of Health (1983 – 1986).

Uyehara is a graduate of the University of Hawaii where she earned a BA in communications.

* Patrick Kobayashi is appointed to the City and County of Honolulu seat.

He is the President & CEO of Kobayashi Group, LLC. Prior to his current position, Kobayashi worked for the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, D.C.

An active community member, he serves on the Mid Pacific Institute Alumni Association, the Hawaii Red Cross Board of Directors, and is a board member on the Na Koa Football Club.

Kobayashi is a graduate of Georgetown University where he earned a BBA.

* Derek Kurisu is appointed to the at-large seat.

He is the Vice President of Purchasing and Executive Vice President of Perishable Operations at KTA Super Stores. He has worked for KTA for 44 years.

He is also a producer of two cable television programs, “Living in Paradise,” and “Seniors Living in Paradise.”

Kurisu is a graduate of the University of Hawaii where he earned a BS in agriculture.

Appointed to the two seats on the Board of Agriculture are:

* Glenn Hong is appointed to the at-large seat. He is the President of Hawaiian Tug & Barge Corp. and Young Brothers, Ltd. He is completing his third year as Board of Governors Chair of the Hawaii Employers Council. Hong is a graduate of the University of Southern California where he earned a BS in accounting.

* Lynn DeCoite is appointed to the Maui County seat. She is the owner and manager of a sweet potato farm, L&R Farm Ent, LLC. She is also owner and ranch handler for V-8 Ranch in Hoolehua. DeCoite attended Maui Community College where she studied business administration.
