MEDIA RELEASE
The Hooulu ka Ulu – Revitalizing Breadfruit project is partnering with Community Harvest Hawaii on a Kona Community Breadfruit Harvest on Saturday, March 24.
Community Harvest Hawaii is a project that harvests, processes and shares the excess food in our community that would otherwise literally fall from the trees (citrus, coconut, breadfruit, guava, avocado, banana, lilikoi, etc.).
Join the Kona Community Breadfruit Harvest on Saturday, March 24
Here is how you can participate
1. Drop off your breadfruit 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Match 24 at the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in South Kona (at the OLD office, not the new building). Be sure your fruit is fully mature, but not soft-ripe. For more harvesting guidance, email hooulu@hawaiihomegrown.net
2. Let us harvest your breadfruit. Trees must be in a location that is easily accessible by vehicle and have fruit low enough to get with a 12′ pole and not near any power lines. We will only harvest your trees at a specific time that you agree to and leave you with plenty of breadfruit. If you are interested in sharing your surplus fruit, hooulu@hawaiihomegrown.net
All of the breadfruit donated will be processed and utilized at the Sept. 29 Breadfruit Festival 2012 at Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden.
