Kern hosting meet-n-greet in Puna (March 10)

Join Zendo Kern, candidate for Hawaii County Council District 5, at the Ainaloa Longhouse from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, March 10.

Pupu and refreshments will be provided. This is a family friendly event.

Kern, 31, was born and raised on the Big Island and spent the majority of his life living and doing business in Puna. Kern a former green-building contractor now operates a small machinery business.

He is also a proud father of a 5-year-old daughter.

Kern currently serves as the chairman of the County’s Windward Planning Commission. His term expires in four years.

Kern is currently not affiliated with any political party. County Council races are non-partisan.

“I am not sure I can identify with any particular party, at this time. If anything, I am for the people of Puna and Hawaii Island, and that’s what matters,” Kern said.

Kern sees the need to embrace sustainability and to create jobs in Puna as top priorities.

“We not only need to create jobs, we need to create a sustainable economy here in Puna and the Big Island. I see how we can marry both jobs and sustainability by embracing renewable energy and green technologies,” Kern said. “We have an opportunity to emerge as leaders in the state by focusing on those industries.”
