Hannemann stands for education, working families

From Mufi Hannemann, candidate for 2nd Congressional District:

With about four and a half months left before voters begin casting ballots for the Aug. 11 Primary, our campaign is clearly resonating with the people of Hawaii’s second congressional district.

The polls continue to show us with a strong lead and we’ve recently received two very important endorsements, which affirm that Mufi Hannemann is the candidate who will stand tall for education and working families.

Standing Tall for Education: Our campaign has received the endorsement of the Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA), which was made after a rigorous review process involving extensive research of voting records, detailed written responses, and an in-person interview with teachers from across the state.

In making their announcement, the HSTA Board of Directors declared, “Mufi Hannemann’s knowledge of issues important to Hawaii equips him to work toward bold solutions to put our nation back on track and to make contributions that will allow our children to choose to call Hawaii home.”

In thanking HSTA for its endorsement, Hannemann said, “Congress plays a vital role in supporting our school system and I’m excited about having an opportunity to help shape our educational policies and ensuring that our teachers and school administrators have the resources they need to do their jobs.”

HSTA represents more than 13,000 public school teachers statewide.

Standing Tall for our Working Families: The Hawaii Government Employees Association (HGEA) also gave its endorsement to our campaign. HGEA is the largest labor union in Hawaii, representing more than 42,000 state and county employees.

The endorsement process involved meet-and-greet sessions with the HGEA membership in each county, culminating in a formal interview with the Political Action Committee before the Board made its final decision.

The chair of HGEA’s Political Action Committee said, “Mr. Hannemann will be a strong fighter and advocate for us in Washington D.C. … He has proven experience and a strong record of accomplishment in various levels of government, and his election will bring added strength to Hawaii’s dynamic congressional delegation.”

In gratefully accepting the endorsement, Hannemann said, “During my time as Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, and as a councilmember, I maintained a positive and productive relationship with HGEA and took a collaborative, ‘open door’ approach in working with them. I hope to take this spirit of mutual trust and respect with me to Washington, D.C. so I can continue to be a champion for Hawaii’s working families.”

Reaching out online and in person: We’re pleased to announce that we have rolled out our new website at www.mufihannemann.com

Our campaign has also been holding dozens of talk story events across the state to meet with residents and hear about what they’d like Hawaii’s next member of Congress to accomplish in Washington, D.C.
