Winter weather advisory for Big Island summits

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa above elevations of 8,000 feet until 6 p.m. this evening (March 7).

The National Weather Service forecasts up to two inches of snow and visibility below one mile at times.

Mauna Kea Access Road is closed to the public due to snow and ice on roadways.

A wind advisory is also in effect for Big Island summits. Winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are forecast through 6 p.m. this evening (March 7). The wind can make driving hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles.
