High surf warning remains in effect for North and East shores of the Big Island

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the high surf warning for the North and East shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Wednesday (March 7).

Rough surf is forecast to be 12-16 feet in height. The rough surf will create dangerous rip currents, waves may splash onto the makai lanes of Bayfront Highway in Hilo, especially around the times of high tide (see tide calendar below). Battering waves will pound the shoreline in some areas.
