The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Winter weather advisory for the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa above 8,000 feet until 6 p.m. this evening (March 4).

Weather forecasts call for periods of freezing rain, sleet and light snow which will make driving and hiking on summit hazardous.

As of 7:40 a.m. Sunday (March 4) Mauna Kea rangers report the road is open to the summit.
