HPA offering new scholarship program

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii Preparatory Academy has announced a new scholarship program available to students entering grades 6, 7, or 9 in the 2012-2013 academic year.

The Hoomau I Ka Pookela (Continuing With Excellence) Scholarship will be awarded to qualifying students with academic potential, as demonstrated by their Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) results.

The scholarship is a merit award, which means families are not required to demonstrate financial need.

For the coming academic year, applicants must attain the following SSAT scores to be considered for the scholarship program:

* Grade 6: 2040
* Grade 7: 2080
* Grade 9: 2250

“We’re thrilled that our Board of Trustees has made a commitment to this scholarship opportunity,” said Headmaster Lindsay Barnes. “We’re looking for students who will positively influence our world. By taking finances out of the equation, we believe this scholarship will help make it possible for Hawaii’s best students to attend HPA.”

Scholarship awardees will receive 50 percent of HPA’s day tuition — which ranges from $18,500 to $21,600 for grades 6 through 9 — or 75 percent of the boarding tuition, which ranges from $37,200 to $38,700 for grades 6 through 9. Qualifying students who demonstrate financial need will receive an additional scholarship that will meet their family’s full demonstrated financial need, less $2,500.

HPA is awarding a total of eight Hoomau I Ka Pookela Scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year — one day scholarship and one boarding scholarship in grades 6 and 7, and two day and two boarding scholarships for grade 9.

The Hoomau I Ka Pookela Scholarship application will be available beginning March 1 at www.hpa.edu/hoomau
