The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter storm warning for the summits of the Big Island above 8,000 feet until 6 a.m. Monday (Feb 20).

An upper low system near the islands has brought sub-freezing temperatures to the summits along with enhanced moisture creating freezing rain, snow, lightning along with black ice on roadways.

Mauna Kea access road is currently closed at the Visitor Information Station. The roadway below the VIS is also slippery and dangerous.
