Rough surf spurs weather advisories for the Big Island

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for North and East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Tuesday (Feb 21).

Surf is forecast to be in the six to eight foot range, possibly higher along East facing shores. Strong trade winds are creating the rough surf conditions.

Swimmers and beachgoers are advised to use caution due to dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion created by the high surf.

A small craft advisory is also in effect for all Hawaiian waters until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
