Brushfire snarls traffic in Kona as Kuakini Highway is shutdown Monday (Feb 13)

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Firefighters responded to a 4:13 p.m. alarm Monday (Feb 13) to a brushfire North of the Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kuakini Highway intersection in Kailua-Kona.

A power line fell, made contact with the ground and sparked the brushfire. The fire burned about one acre of undeveloped land between both roadways. Kuakini Highway was closed between Keakealani Drive and the Kona Outdoor Circle during firefighting operations. Traffic was snarled on the Queen Kaahumanu Highway due to the road closure.

Crews had the fire out at 4:40 p.m. and reported there were no structures involved in the blaze and no injuries. The cause of the fallen power line is unknown.
