Two men charged for multiple crimes including kidnapping and assault

Big Island police have located and charged Waylen Keone Carenio Jr. and Turner Kaimana Au, who were being sought in connection with a late-night assault in a car in front of a Kamehameha Avenue restaurant in Hilo on February 1. Carenio was also wanted on a bench warrant for a Grand Jury indictment.

Carenio and Au turned themselves in at the Hilo police station Monday night (February 6). They were held at the cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

Carenio was charged with manslaughter in connection with the Grand Jury indictment for the death of 44-year-old Roy Williams Jr. of Mountain View. Williams died following an altercation December 3 fronting a sports bar in Hilo. Carenio’s bail on the grand jury indictment was $50,000. He made his initial court appearance for that charge Tuesday afternoon (February 7) and then was returned to the cellblock.

Later Tuesday, Carenio and Au were each charged with kidnapping, intimidating a witness, retaliating against a witness and third-degree assault for the Kamehameha Avenue incident. Their bail on those charges was set at $71,000 each. Both remain at the police cellblock pending their initial court appearances for those charges scheduled for Wednesday (February 8).
